DUCK! Aztecs blow out Oregon to remind who they are at Players Era Festival

by

After perhaps their worst performance under head coach Brian Dutcher, the San Diego State Aztecs made an emphatic statement with a 97-80 win over the Oregon Ducks at the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas.

Reese Dixon-Waters seemed to be shooting at a sewer all night, knocking down 9 of 13 from the field as he scored a team-high 22 points. If left alone, he drained it at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas.

The Aztecs earned their largest DI win of the season, dumping the Ducks by getting a plus-29 advantage from their bench and getting out to a 20-8 edge in fast break points.

BJ Davis continued to be a microwave off the bench, scoring 21 points on 6 of 7 shooting and earning 6 of 7 free throws drawn, while Elzie Harrington added another 12 points on a similarly efficient 5 of 6 night from the field.

Everything that seemed to go wrong last night seemed to go right. Wearing the red uniforms, which according to the Union Tribune, are now 21-5 over the past 16 years, certainly feels like a Bullish power for these Aztecs.

The SDSU lead was multiple possessions after a killshot run near the midway mark of the first half, as Davis knocked down a pair of free-throws and then drained a pair of triples that teed up a Jeremiah Oden layup and Harrington midrange make.

Dixon-Waters served as the cooler, scoring 12 of his 22 points in the second half and making buckets when it seemed that Oregon tried to build a run of their own.

SDSU’s final opponent at the Players Era Festival is to be determined. The game will take place on either Nov. 26 or 27, and will be covered on radio by 760AM San Diego Sports.
