Iowa women’s basketball dominates Western Illinois: Final Score, Recap

No. 14 Iowa women’s basketball (7-0) returns to Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday night with a dominant 86-69 win over Western Illinois (4-1).

Addie Deal finished with a career-high 17 points to lead the Hawkeyes in scoring, posting a 7-for-10 shooting night from the floor and 3-for-4 from deep, to pair alongside 5 assists and 3 rebounds in 31 minutes off the bench.

Ava Heiden and Taylor McCabe each finished with 15 points on a combined 11-for-18 from the floor, 5-for-10 from long range, and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. Heiden would also pick up her third double-double of the campaign with her 10 rebounds.

Defensively, Iowa forced 14 turnovers, including 11 steals. However, Iowa finished with 21 turnovers of its own, which led to 22 points off of those miscues.

Western Illinois’ Raegan McCowan and Mia Nicastro have been the key to the Leathernecks’ third-quarter resurgence, but McCowan has picked up four fouls.

Western Illinois is shooting fearlessly from deep with some success early in the third quarter, but Iowa remained confident with its own shots to counter the Leatherneck’s surge.

Defensively, the Hawkeyes have forced 7 turnovers, including 6 steals. However, Iowa’s 10 turnovers in the first two quarters have led to 13 points for the Leathernecks.
