Iowa women’s basketball improved to 7-0 on Wednesday night with an 86-69 win over Western Illinois from inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Deal also logged a career-high 31 minutes as Iowa dealt with a trio of injuries. In its game day availability report, the Hawkeyes listed sophomore guards Chit-Chat Wright and Teagan Mallegni out. Sophomore Emely Rodriguez was also listed as questionable, but the 6-foot wing didn’t play either.
After the win, Iowa head women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen commented on the trio’s injury statuses.
“Emely is day-to-day and Chit-Chat is still day-to-day. I do see improvement when I see her walking around. And Teagan will probably be about a week,” Jensen said of the injured trio.
Iowa will return to action against Fairfield on Sunday at noon CT in a game that will on the Big Ten Network. After Sunday’s date inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, No. 14 Iowa opens Big Ten play at Rutgers on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. CT on FS1.
