Mayor Todd Gloria made sure Survivor Series weekend in San Diego wasn’t just another night of wrestling—it became a full-on civic celebration.
Ahead of WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, the mayor took to Instagram to share photos and videos from a special ceremony held at Petco Park, where he honored three of WWE’s proudest San Diego-born stars: Rey Mysterio, Nia Jax, and Dominik Mysterio. Each of them received a Key to the City—San Diego’s highest honor.
“A HISTORIC NIGHT IN SAN DIEGO 🏆🔥
For the first time ever, @WWE Survivor Series: WarGames landed in an outdoor MLB stadium — right here at Petco Park.
To mark this incredible moment, I proclaimed today ‘WWE Survivor Series Day’ in the City of San Diego.”
The mayor’s proclamation underscored the city’s pride in its wrestling legends and rising stars. He didn’t hold back on praise either:
“We honored the hometown performers who put the 6-1-9 on the global map:
✨ Rey Mysterio — living legend of Lucha Libre
💥 Nia Jax — irresistible force with San Diego pride
🔥 Dominik Mysterio — the future of a San Diego dynasty”
Gloria closed with a message to the world, stating:
“San Diego is a city of champions. And tonight, the world got to witness it.”
While the city celebrated its champions, WWE had plenty of drama inside the ring. Dominik Mysterio stunned fans by defeating John Cena to recapture the Intercontinental Championship—thanks in part to a shocking return by Liv Morgan, who interfered on his behalf.
On the flip side, Nia Jax didn’t fare as well. She was part of the losing team in the Women’s WarGames match, where AJ Lee tapped out Becky Lynch to seal the victory for her squad.
From civic honors to jaw-dropping in-ring moments, Survivor Series: WarGames wasn’t just historic—it was unforgettable.
