Golesh, who worked for Tim Beckman and Bill Cubit at Illinois from 2012-15, was definitely going somewhere after leading the Bulls to a 9-3 season. His team started with a bang, beating both Boise State and Florida in the nonconference. Close league losses to Memphis and Nany will keep his team out of the College Football Playoff.
Golesh went 23-15 in his first head coaching job, earning three bowl bids.
Auburn, which has a proud history and scared Alabama on Saturday, needs a fresh start. The program has had five losing seasons in a row under two coaches.
Golesh has experience in the SEC as offensive coordinator at Tennessee. He was likely headed back o the conference for 2026 with Arkansas also showing interest.
