After a perfect run through the month of November, Iowa basketball (7-0) makes its debut appearance in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll under first-year head coach Ben McCollum.
The Hawkeyes are readying for their initial Big Ten contest against defending regular-season champion Michigan State (7-0) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT from inside the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich. Iowa will enter its opening conference game after wins over Ole Miss (74-69) and Grand Canyon (59-46) to capture the Acrisure Classic championship last week in Palm Desert, Calif.

After earning six points last week, Iowa checks in at No. 25 nationally to crack the top 25 rankings for the first time under coach McCollum. The Hawkeyes jumped up 13 spots from last week’s position to enter the poll.
The Big Ten also boasts No. 1 Purdue, No. 2 Michigan, No. 8 Michigan State, No. 15 Illinois and No. 19 Indiana inside the top 25. USC, UCLA, Nebraska and Wisconsin are all receiving votes.
