Glenn Maxwell retires from IPL; Cameron Green, Steve Smith headline 2026 Auction list

by

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has not registered for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction, which is set to take place on December 16. Cameron Green, Liam Livingstone, Ravi Bishnoi, Venkatesh Iyer, and Matheesha Pathirana are among the players with the highest base price of ₹2 crore.

A total of 1,355 players have registered for the much-awaited auction, and the full list was shared with all teams after registrations closed on November 30. Each franchise can have only 25 players in the squad, and there are just 77 spots available across the ten teams, including 31 slots for overseas cricketers.

The IPL will now cut this list down once franchises send in their preferred choices. Teams have been given time until December 5 to submit their shortlist. After that, the final auction list will be prepared for the event in Abu Dhabi on December 16.

Glenn Maxwell Unlikely to Feature in the IPL 2026 Season

According to ESPNcricinfo, Glenn Maxwell has not registered his name for the upcoming IPL mini-auction. Punjab Kings (PBKS) signed him for ₹4.20 crore in the mega auction. However, he was not retained by the franchise following his disappointing season.

Maxwell is unlikely to feature in the IPL 2026 season. He has scored 2,819 runs from 141 matches at an average of 23.88 and a strike rate of 155.14, including 18 half-centuries. Maxwell has also taken 41 wickets at an average of 34.46. He was part of the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) title-winning campaign in 2013.

Last season, he scored only 48 runs in six innings with a strike rate below 100 and took just four wickets. His season ended early due to injury, and Punjab replaced him with young Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen.

Cameron Green, Steve Smith, and Venkatesh Iyer Among Top Bracket Players

Cameron Green and Steve Smith are among the biggest international names to register for the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Several well-known Indian players have also entered the list. Green, who skipped the mega-auction because of a back injury, is likely to attract heavy bidding from franchises such as KKR and CSK.

A number of released players have placed themselves in the highest base-price bracket of ₹2 crore. Matheesha Pathirana, Liam Livingstone, Jamie Smith, and Rachin Ravindra are also in the top bracket.

On the Indian side, Venkatesh Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi have also chosen the ₹2 crore base price. Bishnoi, who spent four seasons with Lucknow Super Giants and was retained last year for a high amount, has entered the auction after being released by the franchise.
