The penultimate College Football Playoff rankings have officially been announced, and the CFP committee rewarded the No. 13 Texas Longhorns for a win over the previously-ranked No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies, who fell four spots to No. 7 in the rankings.
According to the ESPN announcement, the No.11 BYU Cougars, who are set to take on No. 4 Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship, are the first team out of the tournament due to the guaranteed berth for two conference champions. The Miami No. 12 Miami Hurricanes, who are idle on Championship Saturday thanks to the ACC’s tie-breakers, are listed as the second team out, with Texas following them at No. 13.

The current ranking all but guarantees the Longhorns will not make the CFP field when the final rankings are announced following the conference championship games.
Texas needed help on the final Saturday of the regular season to have a glimmer of hope for the CFP, but with Oklahoma topping LSU, Auburn falling in the Iron Bowl, and Miami blowing out Pitt, the Longhorns’ hopes were all but extinguished. It would take a significant reversal from the committee to see Texas in the field when it’s announced on Sunday, December 7.
