The first signing period of the 2026 class began on Wednesday, and for Notre Dame football it signed all of its 27 commitments.
It is a highly-touted group, one that is among the nation’s best according to recruiting services, but the Irish managed to accomplish a feat no other school did nationally, they did not have one decommitment of the group as shared by Kyle Kelly. It’s very rare for this to happen, especially considering we are talking about 17 and 18 year-old making some of the biggest decisions of their young lives.

This speaks plenty to the Notre Dame coaching staff as well, as their relationships that they formed with each one of the commitments was genuine, and they didn’t just tell them what they wanted to hear. Head coach Marcus Freeman is building an elite program, and this is just another feather in his cap. This is along the lines of players leaving via the portal as well, as the Irish don’t often see players deciding to move on from the program.
There aren’t many stats in recruiting that you can point to, but for Notre Dame having no decommitments in a cycle is a very impressive one.
