Golden State Warriors assistant Chris DeMarco is officially the 10th head coach of the New York Liberty.
On Wednesday, the team announced it had hired DeMarco, 40, as the next coach to lead the franchise. DeMarco previously spent 14 seasons with the Warriors, including more than 10 seasons as an assistant coach, where he focused on individual skill development and systems. He earned four championships with Golden State in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. His basketball chops extend beyond the NBA, DeMarco has been the head coach of the Bahamian men’s national team since 2019.

“Chris is a proven winner whose approach has been shaped by more than a decade inside one of basketball’s most successful dynasties,” Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb said in a team release.
“He has seen firsthand what it takes to build a championship standard, and his clarity, adaptability, and player-development expertise will be invaluable as we strive to deliver the best version of the New York Liberty for our players, organization, and amazing fans.”
DeMarco replaces former Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello, who has since been hired by the expansion Toronto Tempo as the team’s first coach. Brondello spent four seasons with New York, winning a championship in 2024, before being fired in September. Her exit drew polarizing reactions and criticism around the WNBA.
“I’m incredibly honored to join the Liberty and proud to help carry forward the standard this franchise has set – excellence on the court and a strong connection to the community,” DeMarco said. “The chance to work with some of the greatest players in basketball, supported by an exceptional front office and ownership group, is the kind of opportunity every coach dreams of. I can’t wait to get started.”
