Girls basketball: Lady Chargers win third straight game

Visiting Knightstown jumped led 12-10 after the first quarter and stretched the lead to 26-19 at the half. North Decatur regrouped at the break and took control of the second half, outscoring the Lady Panthers 29-17 en route to the 48-43 victory.

North improves to 3-4 on the season. Knightstown drops to 5-3.

The Lady Chargers had three players score in double figures. Carmen Thackery tallied 15 points, six rebounds, one assist and four steals. Jewel Verseman finished with 13 points and four rebounds. Jo Whitaker had a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Brynlee Green had eight points and two rebounds. Libby Crawford added two points and three rebounds. Brooklyn White contributed four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Leonie Clemente grabbed two rebounds.

The Lady Chargers travel to South Ripley (5-2) Tuesday.

In the junior varsity contest, Knightstown outlasted the Lady Chargers in double overtime 32-28.

Allee Gray hit 7-of-12 free throws to lead the Lady Chargers with seven points. Macie Leake finished with six points. Norah Amberger, LaShay Dwiggins, and Keiran Lusk each scored four points. Grace Nobbe scored three points.

Greensburg 72, Seymour 36

On the road at Seymour, the Lady Pirates doubled up the Lady Owls 72-36.

The win moves Greensburg to 3-2 on the young season heading into Tuesday’s home game against Eastern Hancock (6-1).

The Lady Pirates held a 4-point lead after the first eight minutes. In the next two quarters, Greensburg went on a 37-10 run to take a commanding 56-25 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

Greensburg shot 60 percent from the field and outscored Seymour 27-2 in transition points. Greensburg’s defense forced 21 turnovers by the Lady Owls and the Lady Pirates turned that into 26 points. Greensburg outscored Seymour 44-12 in the paint.

For the Lady Pirates, Claire Larrison tallied 23 points, four rebounds and three assists. Aly Powers added 20 points, three rebounds and one assist. Kahlen Adams finished with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Mary Harmon had eight points, three rebounds and a team-high eight assists. Emma Kuntz chipped in with six points and six rebounds. Rachel Lipps had three points and one rebound. Lulu Webb added one point and two rebounds. Jaylin Thornton and Aubrie Barnes-Pettit both had one rebound.

Batesville 57, Jac-Cen-Del 35

After trailing host Jac-Cen-Del 14-13 after one quarter of play, Batesville outscored the Lady Eagles 36-12 through the next two quarter en route to a 57-35 victory.

Batesville improves to 4-2 on the season. JCD falls to 1-5.

The Lady Bulldogs had three players score in double figures with Maggie Jelinek finishing with 16 points, Leah Meyer 14 points and Molly Gesell 13 points. Jelinek was a force on the boards with 11 offensive rebounds and 19 total rebounds. Meyer grabbed 10 rebounds and Gesell had six rebounds.

Kaylin Kathmann tallied six points, one rebound and a team-high nine assists. Jersey Trenkamp added six points and two rebounds. Nora Wiedeman scored four points.
