The Mariners were the No. 1 trending sports team in the United States in 2025, according to Google’s Year in Search.
The Mariners beat out the NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder and runner-up Indiana Pacers for the top spot on the trending teams list.
One of the biggest stories in baseball this year was, of course, Cal Raleigh’s historic 60-home run season for Seattle, as he shattered the MLB record for a catcher. The MVP race between Raleigh and Yankees superstar Aaron Judge captivated baseball fans all season, with Raleigh ultimately finishing as the runner-up.
Soccer club Paris Saint-Germain F.C. rounded out the top five teams for 2025.
The Mariners supplanted the Yankees as the No. 1 trending team in the U.S. — last year, the Bronx Bombers were the top sports team in Google’s search trends, followed by the Dodgers and Mets.
The Blue Jays were also the No. 1 trending news and events topic, period, in Canada, ranking ahead of the Canada election results. Toronto rookie sensation Trey Yesavage and stars Bo Bichette, George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were also the top four individual trending athletes in Canada according to Google.
