Iowa State football wasted no time naming Matt Campbell’s successor to lead the Cyclones.

Just about an hour after Campbell’s departure to Penn State was confirmed by the Register, the Cyclones announced Washington State coach Jimmy Rogers would replace Campbell.

Rogers has spent just one year coaching at the FBS level, but he has a wide range of experience and has found success at virtually every level he has coached at. Here’s what you need to know about the new Iowa State head coach, Jimmy Rogers.

Who is Iowa State football coach Jimmy Rogers?

Rogers was named the 34th head coach of the Cyclones on Dec. 5. Before landing the job in Ames, he spent one season at Washington State and guided the Cougars to a 6-6 record.

Before his stint in Pullman, he spent nearly his entire coaching career at South Dakota State, working as a GA, linebackers coach, defensive coordinator and eventually, head coach. He spent one season as a GA at Florida Atlantic.

During his time in South Dakota, he was a part of two national titles, one as defensive coordinator (2022) and the other as head coach (2023). He also led the Jackrabbits back to the national semifinals in 2024.
