Wisconsin Women Swim Past Illinois Behind Stella Chapman’s Trio of Wins
The No. 17 Wisconsin women’s swim and dive team took down the Illinois Fighting Illini, 184-111, at Soderholm on Saturday afternoon.
The Badgers won all but three events.
Stella Chapman won all three of her events to lead the Badgers. Chapman touched the wall in 54.37 and 1:58.71 in the 100 and 200 fly, respectively, and won the 200 backstroke in 1:57.41.
Wisconsin completed a 1-2-3 sweep in both the 100 and 200 free. Hailey Tierney led the pack in the 100 free (49.89) as Arianna Zelen (50.66) and Kit Schneider (50.71) finished just under a second behind. In the 200 free, Blair Stoneburg touched the wall in 1:46.45 for a first-place finish with Abby Wanezek (1:46.69) and Tierney (1:49.29) close behind. Wanezek won the 50 free (23.05).
Maddie Waggoner earned a first-place finish in the 1000 free in a time of 9:43.98 and Stoneburg won the 500 free in 4:46.14. Brooke Corrigan won the 100 breaststroke (59.74) and 200 breast (2:08.43).
In the diving well, the Badgers collected a 1-2 finish on both the platform and 1-meter. Ryane Neale put up a strong performance for the Badgers, sweeping all three events. Neal’s 293.25 points performance sits fifth in the all-time performance list.
Illinois got wins from Sara Jass in the 200 IM (2:00.04) and Michelle Kaner in the 100 backstroke (55.13). The 200 freestyle relay team of Isabella Wilhelm, Sophia Yousuf, Maggie Adler and Stephanie Kirova won in 1:32.34.
