Michigan State basketball still in the Top Ten in the polls after loss

by

Michigan State basketball may have suffered its first loss of the season in a close loss to No. 3 Duke, but it turns out losing to one of the top teams in the country in a tight game didn’t hurt the Spartans too much in the polls. Following their 66-60 loss, MSU is now at No. 9 in both the Coaches and AP polls, firmly entrenched in the top ten.

As mentioned, Duke is now up to No. 3 in the country, just behind Michigan and Arizona. In the Coaches Poll, Michigan has gained control of the No. 1 spot after Purdue was trounced by Iowa State, who moves up to No. 4. Despite suffering a much more concerning loss, the Boilermakers are still ranked ahead of MSU at No. 6 in the Coaches Poll. UConn, Gonzaga and Houston are also ahead of the Spartans at this time.

Michigan State will face five non-ranked teams the rest of this month, starting with Penn State on Saturday. If they can hold serve and win those games, they will likely maintain their top ten into the start of 2026.
