The Wisconsin Badgers still sit outside the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll despite a strong week of results.
The Badgers handled both Northwestern and Marquette decisively, righting their trajectory after a pair of recent disappointing results in nonconference play. Despite that strong form, headlined by 28 points per game from John Blackwell, the team is still just in the ‘receiving votes’ section of the poll.

Big Ten teams in the updated coaches poll are No. 1 Michigan, No. 6 Purdue, No. 9 Michigan State, No. 13 Illinois, No. 22 Nebraska and No. 23 Iowa. UCLA, Wisconsin, USC, Indiana and Ohio State were also receiving votes. Michigan jumped into the top spot after four straight 30-plus-point wins. Arizona, Duke, Iowa State and UConn round out the rest of the poll’s top five.
Wisconsin closes its December schedule with a key road trip to No. 22 Nebraska on Wednesday, a neutral site game against Villanova on Dec. 19, then home contests against Central Michigan and UW-Milwaukee on Dec. 22 and 30, respectively. Continued strong form in those matchups should see Greg Gard’s team return to the coaches’ top 25.
