Texas A&M’s O-line snubbed as a finalist for prestigious award

by

Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) is headed to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history and will host Miami (10-2) on Saturday, December 20, in the first round at Kyle Field. One of the Aggies’ predominant strengths this season has been their veteran offensive line, led by several starters who will be in the NFL this time next season.

Allowing just 12 sacks, and helping pave the way for a Texas A&M run game that has produced over 200 yards per game, the Aggie O-line was a semi-finalist for the prestigious Joe Moore Award, given to the best collegiate offensive line in the country, but on Tuesday’s Texas A&M was snubbed in favor of Indiana, Iowa, and Oregon, who are all deserving, but have allowed more sacks on the year.

Since its inception in 2015, Texas A&M has never won the award, while Alabama and Michigan are two-time winners, proving how tough it is to be considered the top O-line given the competition in the Big Ten and SEC year after year.

Still, among a group that features left tackle Trey Zuhn, left guard Chase Bisontis, right guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams, and right tackle Dametreous Crownover, who are all considered first or second day NFL Draft selections next spring. This group deserves to be honored, but winning in the CFP is much more important than earning an award.
