Nebraska basketball sets multiple records in 90-60 win over Wisconsin

by

Nebraska men’s basketball (10-0, 1-0) faced its first Big Ten foe of the season Wednesday night, Wisconsin (7-3, 1-1). Backed by home court advantage, the Huskers matched a pair of long-standing program records in a 90-60 blowout over the Badgers.

The win ties its best start to a season in school history, set back in the 1977-78 season with ten straight wins. The Huskers’ win also made it 14 straight victories for the team, continuing a streak from last season that tied the program mark for the longest win streak in school history, set in the 1990-91 season.

Nebraska made sure both marks would be reached Wednesday night, dominating for most of the game. After Wisconsin spent most of the opening 10 minutes with the lead, the Huskers jumped ahead and entered the locker room on a 26-10 run. Nebraska’s lead never dipped below 14 from there, and it grew to 33 twice.

The Huskers shot sharply from the floor, going 33-of-61, which included 11-of-30 from three-point range. Nebraska also shot 13-of-15 from the free-throw line and outscored the Badgers in the paint 44-24. Wisconsin, meanwhile, shot 22-of-64, 7-of-32 and 9-of-11, respectively.

Rienk Mast posted a double-double in the victory, scoring a team-high 17 points and securing a team-high 10 rebounds. Braden Frager shot 4-of-10 from the floor, 3-of-7 being from beyond the arc. He also hit a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and hauled in six rebounds.

Pryce Sandfort and Berke Büyüktuncel each tallied 14 points on the night with Büyüktuncel landing 4-of-5 from the floor and Sandfort going 6-of-10. Büyüktuncel also hit a perfect 4-of-4 from the line. Sam Hoiberg scored 12 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor.
