Alabama HC Kalen DeBoer officially squashes Michigan Football rumors

by

Michigan fans might have gotten some bad news on Sunday afternoon, as Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer squashed the rumors he could be looking around for other jobs. In a statement, DeBoer reaffirmed his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

“I have not spoken and have no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job. I am fully committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama,” part of DeBoer’s statement read.

Following Sherrone Moore’s firing on Wednesday, DeBoer quickly became a candidate that many Michigan fans were interested in, citing potential past interest in the Michigan job after the 2023 season and his ties to the midwest from his stint as an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan. With DeBoer’s words on Sunday, it would appear the guy who had been at the top of the list for many should be crossed off the list altogether. With Alabama playing in the College Football Playoff against Oklahoma, it might have been complicated to hire DeBoer anyway.

Yesterday, it was reported that Michigan had been in contact with representation for Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham and Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz. Dillingham was asked about the Michigan rumors in a press conference yesterday as well and was effusive in his appreciation for Arizona State, but didn’t outright deny any interest in Michigan.

Washington head coach Jedd Fisch and Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter have also been popular names among fans in recent days that could still be in play.
