The Michigan Wolverines‘ athletic program is busy searching for a new head football coach after former coach Sherrone Moore was fired over an inappropriate relationship with assistant Paige Shiver.

Moore’s resulting emotional breakdown led to him breaking and entering Shiver’s residence and threatening to kill himself in front of her, a dark turn of events that no one expected considering Moore’s pedigree and long history with the program.
On Monday, interim head coach Biff Poggi took the Moore situation by the horns, sharing stark thoughts on his players’ reaction to the disturbing turn of events.

Poggi Speaks at Press Conference
Poggi spoke at a Citrus Bowl press conference during which he let media in on his team’s mindset after the Moore scandal.

“It has been a tumultuous time,” Poggi said. “A lot of anger, and at first disbelief, then anger, then really, what we’re in right now is the kids, quite frankly, feel very betrayed (by Moore), and we’re trying to work through that,” he added.
Texas Solid Favorite vs. Wolverines
The Texas Longhorns are a 7.5-point favorite headed into Dec. 31’s Citrus Bowl with the over/under set at 46.5 points.
The Wolverines’ coaching changes have caused the line to move in the Longhorns’ favor, but Michigan looked good in two games this season with Poggi serving as captain of the ship in Moore’s stead.

Michigan beat Central Michigan 63-3 at the Big House followed by a 30-27 road win over Dylan Raiola’s Nebraska Cornhuskers with Poggi donning a headset as the Wolverines’ coach.
Poggi’s candidacy for next season’s head coaching job is gaining steam despite his 6-16 record as head coach at Charlotte prior to joining Michigan.
Poggi’s honesty and down-to-earth charm have won over Michigan fans with the fate of the program hanging in the balance heading into the offseason and bowl game.

If the high school coaching legend can rally the troops and turn in an impressive performance in a few weeks, there is a real chance that he could be Warde Manuel’s choice to restore morale and lead the program forward without Moore heading into 2026.
