According to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Alabama Crimson Tide are expected to hire Derrick Nix as the program’s new wide receivers coach.
In that role, Nix would replace former Alabama wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard, who recently became the head coach at Oregon State.

Nix would come to Tuscaloosa following two seasons at Auburn where the veteran SEC assistant has served as the Tigers offensive coordinator in 2024-25 under former head coach Hugh Freeze. Under the leadership of Nix, Auburn’s offense ranked No. 71 nationally in 2024 with an average of 27.8 points per game, as well as No. 76 this past season at 26.8.
Prior to Auburn, Nix was at Ole Miss from 2008-23 where he spent a majority of his time in Oxford as the Rebels running backs coach. Nix also coached wide receivers at Ole Miss from 2020-23, and was also associate head coach in 2023 under Lane Kiffin.
