The Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG) has once again organized the Golf Gala, where the Spanish golf community honored the season's top performers, all of whom have made this an unforgettable year, as well as various individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to the development of this sport in Spain.
The presence of José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, enhanced an event that brought together representatives from all sectors of the golf world. Juan Guerrero-Burgos, President of the RFEG, emphasized in his address "the importance of golfers, the true protagonists of our sport. Thanks to your talent and effort, you are the true ambassadors of our sport. Many thanks also to all those who support you: parents, coaches, clubs, and the Armed Forces. Take advantage of what is offered to you because the RFEG is a resource at your complete disposal".
Spain, golf
For his part, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, in his speech at the event, emphasized that “the city council I preside over is proud to support such positive sporting activities as golf, a sustainable sport that provides jobs and income, and can be played at any age… Supporting the Spanish Open is another of the Madrid City Council's clear commitments. We continue working to make it a world-class event. And the successes achieved this year on all circuits, amateur and professional, demonstrate this. Make lots of birdies!”
Several videos reviewing this history and expressing general gratitude were shown during a Gala where the Spanish golf community also paid tribute to the season's top performers, all of whom have contributed to a sensational year, as well as to various individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to the development of this sport in our country.
The 2025 Spanish Golf Gala also hosted the presentation of the Medals and Plaques for Merit in Golf, a total of six awards. In the Gold Medal category, these were awarded to Jorge Campillo—a professional golfer with a distinguished career that includes representing Spain at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games—and to the members of the winning team who had not previously received this distinction in the Ladies' European Championship: Paula Martín, Andrea Revuelta, Rocío Tejedo, and Paula de Francisco, with Covadonga Basagoiti as captain and Sergio de Céspedes as coach.
The Gold Medals for Merit in Golf were awarded posthumously to Ernesto Fernández de Gamboa, a prominent figure in promoting men's amateur golf within the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
For their part, the Madrid City Council and Madrid Trophy Promotion received the Golf Merit Award for their unwavering support of golf promotion, and especially for organizing the Spanish Men's Open, a benchmark event within the DP World Tour. The winner of this prestigious tournament earns a place in the Masters and the British Open the following year.
El Bosque Golf Club completed the group of Golf Merit Award recipients, in this case in honor of its fiftieth anniversary, a period marked by its continued support of Valencian and Spanish golf. It was an exceptional year in the sporting arena. In purely sporting terms, trophies were awarded to the dozens of golfers who achieved international victories throughout an absolutely outstanding 2025, in both amateur and professional competitions, with special mention for the victories achieved by amateur women's golf and the twenty-seven titles won by Spanish golfers on the various Professional Tours.
In the amateur arena, it's worth highlighting Spain's clean sweep, winning gold medals at the European Senior and Under-18 Team Championships, as well as gold, silver, and bronze medals at the European Individual Championships thanks to Paula Martín, Balma Dávalos, and Andrea Revuelta. Furthermore, Spain earned a highly commendable silver medal at the Women's World Team Championships held in Singapore, where the tiebreaker—best discarded round—required a third day to resolve the persistent tie, ultimately favoring the United States.
Spain also secured a valuable silver medal at the World Junior Girls Championship, a tournament that brought together twenty-two world powers in Canada. This time, they didn't take home the gold, as they had in 2017 and 2022, but they did secure a silver that rewarded the Spanish team's efforts. Finally, the chapter on women's team triumphs includes victory in the prestigious RCG Sotogrande Cup.
