Oregon WR Evan Stewart trending toward CFP return, per report

by

On Friday night, Oregon Ducks wide receiver Evan Stewart was downgraded from “questionable” to “doubtful” for the first round College Football Playoff game against the James Madison Dukes. This came as no surprise, considering that Stewart is yet to play this season following an early-summer knee injury that required surgery.

However, it appears that all hope is not lost for Stewart and a potential return this year.

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Stewart isn’t expected to play on Saturday in the first-round game, but there is increasing optimism that he will be able to play at some point this postseason, potentially as early as the quarterfinals vs. Texas Tech on January 1, should the Ducks make it there.

Should Stewart be able to eventually return, it would be significant for Oregon, as he was slated to be the Ducks’ No. 1 receiver a year after recording 48 catches for 613 yards and five touchdowns in 2024. It’s unlikely he immediately reaches that level, but stepping in in a complementary role alongside Dakorien Moore and Gary Bryant Jr. would undoubtedly raise Oregon’s ceiling right when they need it.
