Amanda Anisimova tells Serena Williams how she'd feel about playing doubles with her

by

Amanda Anisimova would absolutely love to play doubles with Serena Williams, as the 24-year-old believes that would be a "cool" thing to do.

For years, Williams was the face of American women's tennis. After reaching two Grand Slam finals in 2025 and a career-high ranking of No. 4, Anisimova is now undoubtedly one of the main figures in US tennis.

While taking on a Would You Rather challenge for SELF Magazine, the 2025 Wimbledon and US Open runner-up was asked to pick between playing doubles with Williams and having a coaching session with Maria Sharapova.

“Ohh both would be amazing. I think I would go with a personalized coaching session. But then also to play doubles with Serena would be so cool," Anisimova replied.

Anisimova definitely wouldn't second-guess what to do if an invitation came to play doubles with Williams. However, it is not a secret that the world No. 4 is not that high on playing doubles as she owns a lifetime 4-8 record in the competition. This year, the American didn't appear in a single women's doubles tournament. Also, she has never been ranked higher than No. 386 in doubles.

Will Williams return and once again be Anisimova's Tour colleague?

A bombshell dropped at the start of December when Ben Rothenberg reported that Williams was back on the ITIA's doping testing pool. It sparked massive comeback speculations – and while the former 23-time Grand Slam champion denied it – the public wasn't convinced.

Omg yall I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy," the former world No. 1

After players get reinstated into the testing pool, six months have to pass before they are allowed to return to pro tennis tournaments. That means that if Williams wants to get back, she will be eligible to do so just before the grass season and Wimbledon.
