Monday, December 22

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

• Teams: Washington State vs. Utah State

• Location: Albertsons Stadium, Boise, ID

Neither of these teams fared well in one-score games this season against FBS competition. Washington State went 0-4 outright in such tense moments, while Utah State went 1-2.

None of that is encouraging, but obviously, a game with a spread of 1.5 points expects someone to win a one-score worry. Put that faith in Utah State, the team with an established head coach rather than an interim head coach who was an FCS coordinator last year.

Bush’s Boca Raton Bowl

• Teams: Toledo vs. Louisville

• Location: Flagler Credit Union Stadium, Boca Raton, FL

Louisville’s continuity gives them an edge, and this is playable as long as it stays under a touchdown. Additionally, the Cardinals’ coaching edge in this matchup should show up in the margins.

New Orleans Bowl

• Teams: Western Kentucky vs. Southern Miss

• Location: Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, LA

The Hilltoppers are elite at limiting points on quality drives, ranking fourth with just 2.2 PPQD allowed. The Golden Eagles rank 59th in that metric, behind an offense that sits 110th in dropback success rate.

Western Kentucky has the better defense and an offense that will keep drives going with third-down conversions. Add in the penalty issues that have plagued Southern Miss all season, and you’ve got a great spot to back the better team laying less than a field goal.

Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl

• Location: Ford Center At The Star, Frisco, TX

This line has ballooned in response to Ohio’s coach getting fired, but the other factors don’t support the widespread. Ohio State was the only team to beat the Bobcats by 7+, and it had better metrics despite facing a more difficult schedule.
