PHILADELPHIA — The Phillies have signed right-hander Zach Pop to a one-year deal.
He will compete for a bullpen job in the spring.
Pop, 29, has made 163 relief appearances in a five-year career with the Marlins (2021-22), Blue Jays (2022-24), Mariners (2025) and Mets (2025). He is 8-6 with a combined 4.88 ERA, having struck out 126 and walked 55 in 162 1/3 innings. He is a sinkerballer that induces a lot of groundballs.
Pop is out of options, so he could have an inside track on one of two available bullpen jobs.
Six spots are locked up with right-handers Jhoan Duran, Brad Keller, Orion Kerkering and Jonathan Bowlan and left-handers José Alvarado and Tanner Banks. Candidates for the two remaining jobs, other than Pop, include Rule 5 Draft pick Zach McCambley; recently acquired right-hander Yoniel Curet; recently acquired left-hander Tyler Backhus; returnees Nolan Hoffman, Seth Johnson, Max Lazar and likely others.
Pop’s arrival gives the Phillies 39 players on the 40-man roster. They’re still trying to re-sign free-agent catcher J.T. Realmuto.
