Iowa women’s basketball slips in latest AP Top 25 rankings

by

Unsurprisingly, following Iowa women’s basketball’s (11-2, 1-0 Big Ten) second loss of the season in a 90-64 blowout against No. 1 UConn (11-0) on Dec. 20 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., the Hawkeyes slipped in the latest AP Top 25 poll.

While the team actually shot pretty well (25-for-51 from the floor, 8-for-17 from 3-point territory, and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line) against UConn, the Hawkeyes’ undoing was a near-direct result of their 26 turnovers (19 steals and five blocks), which led to a whopping 41 Huskies’ points converted off those miscues.

Fortunately, the AP poll voters showed a bit of sympathy for the Hawkeyes, dropping the program only three spots from their Week 7 position. As a result, Iowa now ranks as the No. 14 team in the poll.

The Big Ten is once again well represented in the latest AP Top 25 rankings. UCLA is ranked No. 4, Michigan No. 6, Maryland No. 7, USC No. 17, Ohio State No. 19, Nebraska No. 20, and Michigan State No. 24. Illinois also received four points in the receiving votes category.

As Iowa enters the holiday break at 11-2 overall, here’s a look at the full AP Top 25 women’s college basketball poll for Week 8:
