Earlier this week, we mentioned that former Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne and former General Manager/Head Coach Mike Thibault were nominated for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fameβs Class of 2026. In addition, former Washington Bullets Head Coach Dick Motta was also nominated.
In addition, another former Mystics star, their first franchise player, Chamique Holdsclaw was also nominated. Cat Ariall of Swish Appeal wrote a strong analysis regarding why she should be nominated and I encourage to read her analysis.

Holdsclaw was a 1996 Olympian, a multi-time WNBA All-Star and one of the best college basketball players of the 1990s where she played for the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. Now, compared to Delle Donne or Candace Parker, Holdsclawβs WNBA resume does fall short. She never won an MVP award, nor did she play for a WNBA championship or runner up team. But most of Holdsclawβs career, especially early on, was with a Mystics team that often didnβt have much to root for.
There is no cap on how many people who can be named to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in any given year. However, the committees arenβt simply going to hand a trophy to every potential candidate. I mean, after all, Motta isnβt a Hall of Fame Coach yet.
Do you think Holdsclaw should get the nod to the Hall of Fame? Let us know in the comments below.
