MANHATTAN — A viral social media post claiming that Kansas State basketball star PJ Haggerty is opting for the remainder of the season over the Wildcats’ failure to pay NIL compensation is false.
An X post on Tuesday, Dec. 23, has accounted for over 439,000 views, claiming that Haggerty is “strongly considering suing the university.” The account, @ScottHughesCBB, has been known to post fake stories on social media while claiming to be a “credentialed men’s college basketball reporter.”

The post has still managed to trick many into thinking that K-State is doing Haggerty wrong.
K-State assistant basketball coach Jareem Dowling shared the post, writing, “Man o man! Comeback PJ Please,” as a joke.
Haggerty is currently the nation’s third-leading scorer, averaging 22.8 points per game. The Wildcats are 8-4 and are on a three-game winning streak ahead of their non-conference finale against Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. at Bramlage Coliseum.
K-State opens Big 12 play on Jan. 3 and will host BYU.
