Dennis Hamlin, father of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, died on Dec. 29 after a fire broke out in his home.
Dennis Hamlin, 75, died in the fire, Gaston County EMS confirmed to FOX Sports NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass. Mary Lou Hamlin, Dennis’s wife and mom to Denny, has been listed in critical condition.

The fire began at the home of Denny Hamlin’s parents in Gaston County, North Carolina on Dec. 28. The fire, which had already destroyed 40% of the home by the time fire crews arrived, took two hours to extinguish, according to authorities.
Dennis’ health has been on decline during the 2025 NASCAR season. Denny was emotional in talking about his dad during the season and at his Las Vegas win in October.
Denny Hamlin has 60 NASCAR Cup wins and has won the Daytona 500 three times. He was runner-up to Kyle Larson for the NASCAR Cup Series championship, a series he’s never won.
