COLUMBIA — South Carolina women’s basketball star guard Ta’Niya Latson was having a nice game before going down with an apparent lower leg injury in the second quarter of the Gamecocks matchup with Providence on Dec. 28 at Colonial Life Arena.
The senior guard and Florida State transfer went for the pump fake to lay the ball in before falling and grabbing her left leg. Latson needed assistance to leave the court, not putting any pressure on her left leg, and didn’t return to the game, which No. 3 South Carolina (13-1) won 95-55.

Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley said Latson was “all smiles” after the game, and didn’t say whether she has any specific injury.
“She’s happy, she’s smiling,” Staley said. “She got treatment in the second half and just walked out. We’ll look at her tomorrow.”

She’s the second-leading scorer for the Gamecocks, averaging 17.4 points per game. Sophomore forward Joyce Edwards leads the team, averaging 22 points a game.
