TULSA — In the opening round of the 60th annual Tournament of Champions, Sequoyah girls basketball couldn’t get its offense going against the No. 1 4A team, Lincoln Christian.
Ranked No. 2 in 3A, the Lady Indians lost the opening round 61-37 Thursday, Dec. 29 at the BOK Center in Tulsa. An 11-0 stretch in the first quarter opened the door for the Lady Bulldogs to take the opening round win.

The 11-0 scoring run gave the Lady Bulldogs a 19-9 lead going into the second quarter. Early on, the Lady Indians faced a strong full court press from the Lincoln Christian defense, resulting in early steals opening the door for the offensive.
In the second quarter, Kobey Kirk kept the Lady Indians in the game off the bench. Throughout the second quarter, Kirk was getting baskets, finishing with 7 off SHS’ 11 points in the frame.
Going into the locker rooms, the Lady Bulldogs held a 32-20 advantage.
Needing a comeback, SHS came out in the second quarter and faced a tough Lincoln Christian defense that continued to force steals. SHS put up 7 points in the third quarter.

With the game all but sewn up for the Lady Bulldogs, SHS put up 10 points in the final frame.
With the loss, SHS will head to the consolation side of the bracket and a noon showdown, Tuesday, Dec. 30 vs. Quinton.
