Derrick Lewis confused why he’s an underdog vs. Waldo Cortes-Acosta

Derrick Lewis disagrees with the betting odds for his fight against Waldo Cortes-Acosta.

The former title challenger finds himself a sizable underdog against rising contender Cortes-Acosta (16-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) in their UFC 324 heavyweight matchup on Jan. 24 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (Paramount+).

Lewis (29-12 MMA, 20-10 UFC) was also an underdog in his most recent outing against formerly unbeaten Tallison Teixeira, whom he dispatched of in just 35 seconds at UFC on ESPN 70 in July.

“It’s not happening, so let them keep doing it,” Lewis told the UFC on being a stepping stone for rising heavyweights. “I’ve said it before, but it needs to be investigated why I’m the underdog against these types of guys.”

Lewis is the record holder for most knockout wins in UFC history. He can reach 30 career wins if he takes out Cortes-Acosta.

“It is kind of important because I’ve got to get an even number. That’s huge for me right now,” Lewis said. “I want to go on a winning streak. Before I started going on this winning streak, I said, ‘I’m not losing no more.’ I put it in my mind already that none of these guys can mess with me.”
