Florida State women’s basketball’s (5-10, 0-3) last-minute comeback late in the fourth quarter was not quite enough as it dropped to Syracuse (12-2, 2-1), 82-72 at the JMA Wireless Dome.
FSU remains winless in the ACC and has lost six of the last seven games to start the new year.

The Seminoles shot 38 percent from the field and from 3. While FSU trailed the entire game, it won the turnover battle, forcing 20, including 16 steals.
Four players reached double figures as Sophomore guard Sole Williams led with 21 points. Emma Risch came off the bench with 15 points, including knocking down four three-pointers. Allie Kubek added 12 points and a career-high four steals. Jasmine Shavers had 10 points and added five steals, which matched her career best.
The Orange had an early 18-8 lead to start the first quarter and ended the period 26-14. The Seminoles showed some spark with a 7-0 run to cut Syracuse’s lead to eight. Risch knocked a par of 3s to make it a tighter ball game.
The Orange responded with three straight buckets to put them back in double figures and led 35-23. FSU trailed 43-33 at the half but carried off momentum after Williams put up four points a minute before the half.

Throughout the second half, FSU kept making a convincing game and even cut the Cuse’s lead to four, but the Orange wouldn’t budge as they remained in control with a 62-51 lead heading into the fourth, led by their freshman center Uche Izoje, who finished with 21 points.
After knocking down some 3s, the Seminoles were only down 70-67 with 3:21 left to play.
Syracuse stretched its lead to seven, but Risch sank her fourth 3-pointer to make it a 3-point game again. Shavers added a free throw to cut it to two with 1:20 remaining. Syracuse outlasted the Seminoles by making their free throws during crunch time.
