Michigan football has surprising starter enter transfer portal

by

Michigan football is in the middle of a complete overhaul, and with that comes some growing pains. With the opening of the transfer portal, the Wolverines are facing some expected attrition, but some of the names entering, despite Kyle Whittingham taking over, have been slightly surprising.

Cornerbacks Elijah Dotson and Zeke Berry, as well as linebacker Cole Sullivan (who left the door open to returning), aren’t exactly moves that the program had hoped for, but so long as Sullivan returns, fans would likely be OK. However, there was another surprising entry late on Friday.

Having started every game at right tackle from the Alabama game last year to the Ohio State game this year, redshirt freshman Andrew Sprague was expected to be a mainstay on the line for years to come. However, he is in fact looking for a different opportunity, as CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports that Sprague is in the transfer portal.

Sprague will have three years of eligibility remaining. At the moment, the Wolverines have several viable tackles, from Andrew Babalola, Evan Link, Blake Frazier, and potentially Ty Haywood if he moves back outside. Additionally, new head coach Kyle Whittingham and new OL coach Jim Harding could target some of their former players at Utah to help fill out depth.
