Storm Goretti: Cornish Pirates’ grandstand suffers serious damage

The club is due to meet with insurers later on Friday, with costs that could go into hundreds of thousands of pounds.

While Pettipher is confident they are covered, repairing the damage as soon as possible will have a major cashflow impact on the club.

Pirates’ next game is at home to Ampthill on Saturday, 24 January, and Pettipher said they have a contingency should the Mennaye not be safe enough to play at.

“We’ve already reached out to local clubs, Redruth and Camborne, the people I’ve spoken to have been incredibly welcoming,” she added.

“They’ve looked, they don’t have matches on our next home match, 24 January, so if we needed to move, they’re willing to host us.

“But it might be that the repair plan says we can clear the debris and potentially have that stand available, as long as everybody comes with an umbrella, it would be a stand without a roof.

“But as of this moment, we do not know.”
