North Carolina Dominates Meet Against Boston College, UNC-Wilmington
North Carolina’s swim and dive teams swam their first home competition of 2026 against in-state rival UNC-Wilmington and ACC opponent Boston College. The Tar Heel women won the meet 222-66 against BC and 209.5-84.5 against UNCW while the men won 219-77 (BC) and 232-66 (UNCW).
The team of Sophia Frei, Samantha Armand, Kamryn Meskill and Eden Goettsch captured first place in the 200 medley relay in 1:38.24. Armand won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.73 before taking a narrow win in the 200 breast (2:12.24), and Frei went 1:53.02 for the win in the 200 backstroke.
Lily Reader topped the 1000 freestyle (9:51.35) as well as the 500 free (4:50.49), and Maren Conze led the way in the 200 free (1:47.73). Emma Karam claimed first place in the 100 back (52.06), with Mary Macaulay following with an impressive effort in the 200 butterfly (1:56.36). Chloe Stinson went 23.02 to top the 50 free while Michaela Chokureva won the 100 free (49.29). Macaulay won again in the 200 IM (1:58.21).
In diving, Sofia Knight won 1-meter (306.70) and 3-meter (331.25), and the 400 free relay team of Meskill, Chokureva, Conze and Mackenzie Headley was victorious in 3:18.57.
The only non-North Carolina win of the day came in the 100 fly as UNCW’s Cameron Snowden clocked 53.55 for the win.
On the men’s side, the UNC team of Colin Whelehan, Ben Delmar, Nate Hohm and Louis Dramm won the 200 medley relay in 1:25.92. Dramm led the way in the 200 free (1:35.28), and Whelehan was the winner of the 200 fly (1:45.36). Hohm grabbed a narrow win in the 100 fly (47.49). Delmar had the day off from his usual breaststroke events, but he won the 200 IM in 1:44.85.
Josh Parent cruised in the 1000 free (9:07.57), and JT Schmid was first in the 100 back (47.90). Xavier Ruiz was first in a tight 100 breast (54.05) while Sean Setzer topped the 50 free (19.66) and 100 free (44.04). David Melnychuk took first in the 200 back by more than a second (1:44.14). Giulian Martin topped the 200 breast (1:57.18), and the 500 free went to Sam Huggins (4:26.95).
Carter Loftin took first in 1-meter diving (326.15), and Rodolfo Vazquez Montano won 3-meter (377.50). The team of Setzer, David Quaresma, Martin Kartavi and Dramm cruised to a win in the 400 free relay in 2:53.18.
