Daniil Medvedev is showing his best tennis at the start of the season.
The Russian ace has always been extremely comfortable on the hard courts and the hard work he has done in recent weeks has already begun to pay off.
The former world number 1 – who has had a serious crisis in the last two seasons moving away from the positions he belongs to – had already shown positive signs in the last part of last year, after the decision to part ways with his historic coach Gilles Cervara.
In particular, the champion from Moscow had returned to win a title after two and a half years and had cultivated the dream of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin in extremis. He had not managed to achieve that goal, but it was evident to everyone that he was on the right way and his performances at the Brisbane tournament confirmed it.
Medvedev is extremely happy
The winner of the 2021 US Open reached the final in his first tournament of the season, losing only one set along his run and showing flashes of the highest level against very dangerous opponents.
Daniil was almost perfect against Alex Michelsen in the semi-finals and – if he continues to play like this – he will be a danger to everyone in the 2026 edition of the Australian Open (which starts on Sunday 18 January at Melbourne Park).
In his latest press conference, the former world No.1 admitted that he was proud of his current level: “I think all my shots were great, and we worked a lot on the volley and serve during the preseason. My game plan doesn’t allow me to go to the net too often, but I feel like whenever I had the opportunity today, I was there, and I don’t think I lost any points; maybe one or two.
I had some crazy good volleys, probably a little bit for the highlights, so super happy.” He will face American ace Brandon Nakashima for the title.
