Vanderbilt football lands LSU edge CJ Jackson in transfer portal

by

CJ Jackson, an edge defender from LSU, announced his transfer portal commitment to Vanderbilt football on social media Jan. 9.

The 6-4, 250-pounder will be a redshirt sophomore. He appeared in one game for the Tigers in 2024 and five games in 2025, recording three tackles and two tackles for loss.

Jackson is yet another player Vanderbilt has taken from the portal who saw limited playing time at another SEC school. Coach Clark Lea has specialized in taking these kinds of players and many of them have stepped into the Commodores‘ rotation, albeit most not as starters.

Jackson was a 4-star recruit out of Tucker High School in Atlanta.

Miles Capers is the incumbent for Vanderbilt at edge, but Jackson could help replace the production of other defensive linemen who are moving on, such as Linus Zunk, Zaylin Wood and Khordae Sydnor.
