Georgia football loses fifth defensive back to transfer portal

The Georgia Bulldogs are losing their fifth defensive back to the transfer portal. Defensive back Adrian Maddox entered the transfer portal, according to Max Olson of ESPN. Georgia is experiencing massive turnover in their defensive backfield.

Maddox is a well-traveled DB. After coming out of Heritage High School as a three-star prospect in 2022, he signed with Alabama State. Through two years with the Hornets, Maddox had 70 tackles, 8 deflections, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

He piggybacked off his success after transferring to the UAB Blazers in 2024. With UAB, he had 44 tackles, 7 deflections, two forced fumbles, and a 99-yard pick six against Rice.

Georgia took an interest with him, and he even flipped his commitment from the Florida Gators to join the Bulldogs. Many were excited about him making plays in the secondary, but his abilities didn’t quite transfer over to Georgia.

Maddox only played snaps in four games, registering stats in three. Overall, he had just four tackles in his Georgia tenure and redshirted to maintain his final season of eligibility. He’d be an interesting fit to return to UAB with former Georgia assistant Todd Grantham returning as the Blazer’s defensive coordinator.

Georgia has also lost defensive backs Daniel Harris, Jaden Harris (Kansas), Ondre Evans (NC State), and Joenel Aguero to the portal. They’ve done well in replacing the transfers in the secondary, signing Clemson safety Khalil Barnes, ECU safety Ja’Marley Riddle, and USC cornerback Braylon Conley.
