Colby Covington calls out Georges St-Pierre after RAF 5 win over Luke Rockhold

by

After beating one former UFC champion on the mats, Colby Covington has his sights set on perhaps the greatest of them all.

Covington had no trouble with ex-UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold on Saturday, cruising to a 12-0 technical fall victory in Saturday night’s RAF 5 headliner at Amerant Arena in Sunrise, Fla. Afterward, Covington got on the microphone to call out UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre to challenge him in a wrestling match.

“You know who I want next? There’s only one person above me right now on the takedown list in UFC welterweight history: That’s Georges St-Pierre,” Covington said. “GSP, get out here for Real American Freestyle. Let’s make it happen. I’ll talk to my people, and they’ll come to your people, and let’s make it happen. Everyone wants to see you, GSP.”

St-Pierre collected a UFC welterweight record 87 takedowns during his illustrious career, which included a stretch of nine consecutive title defenses from 2008 to 2013. Covington, a former UFC interim welterweight champ, is second in division takedowns with 70.

Now 44, St-Pierre hasn’t taken part in professional competition since claiming the UFC middleweight title from Michael Bisping in November 2017. St-Pierre retired just a few months later due to health issues.

Covington, 37, didn’t compete in the UFC in 2025. He’s on a two-fight skid with losses to Leon Edwards in December 2023 and Joaquin Buckley in December 2024.
