Iowa women’s basketball assistant coach LaSondra Barrett was on hand for a thriller featuring Hawkeye five-star signee McKenna Woliczko.

In a high-profile top-3 matchup on Saturday afternoon, Woliczko and No. 3 nationally-ranked Archbishop Mitty (12-2) dropped a double-overtime thriller to No. 1 Ontario Christian (20-0), 96-87, in the Kay Yow Showcase from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif.

Although they suffered their second defeat of the season, Woliczko was a dominant force on both ends of the court for the Monarchs. Playing just her fourth game of the season, the Hawkeyes‘ signee scored 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the floor, 1-for-1 from 3-point territory, and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line, to go along with 15 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks through 33:45 of action.

The 6-foot-2 forward’s stellar all-around performance now raises her average to 19.8 points and 13.3 rebounds per game, giving her a fourth consecutive double-double.

While Woliczko clearly appreciated the support of her future coaching staff, Barrett could have also been in attendance to observe the performance of Ontario Christian’s top-ranked 2027 recruit, Kaleena Smith, whom the Hawkeyes offered on June 1.

Smith led all scorers with a staggering 50 points on 18-for-38 shooting from the floor, 5-for-20 from 3-point land, and 9-for-10 from the charity stripe, to go along with six rebounds, four steals, and three assists in 39:12 of playing time for the Lady Knights.

With No. 14 Iowa (13-2, 4-0 Big Ten) taking on Indiana (11-6, 0-5 Big Ten) from Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind., at 4 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network Sunday afternoon, the Hawkeyes certainly will get an excellent report from Barrett on both Woliczko and Smith’s showing.
