Rick Pitino’s St. John’s Red Storm beat Creighton, 90-73, on Saturday to improve to 11-5 on the season. They have also now won four of their last five games amid their bid to get back on top of the Big East.

St. John’s steady rise this season isn’t the only good news Pitino has received this week, though. On the same day as their win against Creighton, the veteran head coach himself announced major personal news.

On X, Pitino revealed that he has welcomed his 16th grandchild, a baby girl named Lily Madelyn. The post also indicated that the baby is the child of Ryan Pitino, his son.
“What an incredible day as we welcome Lily Madelyn to the Pitinos!” the 73-year-old coach wrote, along with a photo of the baby. “Congrats Maura and Ryan. 16 amazing grandchildren. So proud.”

It hasn’t even been a year since Pitino welcomed his 15th grandchild. In May 2025, the St. John’s coach shared the birth of Matthew Ryan, who was his eighth grandson.
With the new addition to the family, Pitino now has eight granddaughters as well.
The two-time national champion coach has five living children: Michael, Christopher, Richard, Ryan and a daughter named Jacqueline. He also had a son named Daniel, but he unfortunately passed away in 1987 at six months old due to heart failure.
