At 7-9, the Eagles are losers of three straight games following their 75-62 loss to the 20th national ranked Louisville. It won’t get any easier for them as Clemson enters this game ranked 22nd in the Men’s College Basketball Rankings (AP Top 25).
Fred Payne continues to be one of the few bright spots for Boston College. He’s coming off back to back 20+ point games and finding success from three point range, shooting 53% from deep with seven makes. His playmaking ability is giving the Eagles a second weapon to their offense next to Donald Hand Jr. Hand Jr leads the Eagles with his 15.3 points per game but is struggling to find consistency. Offensively, as a team the Eagles are shooting a poor 39.7% from the floor, 67.2% from the charity stripe and 29.1% from three point range. It’s an ongoing issue that’s yet to be resolved.
The matchup versus the Tigers is a big test. Clemson is 14-3 (4-0 in conference games) and hold a definite talent advantage. The Tigers are efficient on offense, shooting 46% overall and possess depth. Their two top scorers are RJ Godfrey (12.2 PPG) and Jestin Porter (11.7), both seniors. Can the Eagles keep up with them? BC did hold their own against Louisville but evidently fell apart in the second half. It was a positive sign to see their fight versus a superior opponent in the previous game, and reciprocating that same intensity could fare well for BC in this matchup, especially at home. This matchup could be similar to the Louisville one, or could get ugly real fast.
Prediction: Clemson Tigers 71, Boston College Eagles 61
