Former WNBA guard Kysre Gondrezick had brutal news to share with her fans this week.
Gondrezick, 28, started her WNBA career in 2021 with the Indiana Fever. After spending a few years away from the WNBA, she signed a deal with the Chicago Sky. She averaged just 3.2 minutes per game before being released in June 2024. It was announced this past October that she was joining Athletes Unlimited for the 2026 season.

“I’m so grateful and excited all at the same time to get an opportunity to not only do what I love but compete amongst the best women to become better in pursuit of my dream,” Gondrezick said.
Unfortunately, fans won’t get to see Gondrezick on the court anytime soon.
According to TMZ Sports, Gondrezick suffered a torn Achilles during a workout at the University of Miami this past weekend.
Gondrezick released a statement this Wednesday regarding her injury. As you’d imagine, she’s devastated that her return to the hardwood has now been put on hold.

“This hurts! Truly one of the hardest, most shocking moments of my journey thus far. I was diagnosed with a torn Achilles this week and am heading into immediate surgery. I truly don’t wish this upon anyone, but I believe in my creator and in the discipline of becoming the best player and version of myself from this experience. I am completely devastated with just one week away before reporting, but I would like to thank @auprobasketball for giving me more than an opportunity; they gave me purpose and hope in pursuit of my dream,” Gondrezick wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you to @miamihurricanes athletic team for rapidly setting up the resources and guiding me through this procedure. This does not end my story and despite how hard the context, I am simply just turning the page during this chapter of my life. I really would appreciate everyone’s support and prayers throughout this process. Greater is He that is within me.”

What’s next for Kysre Gondrezick?
It doesn’t sound like Gondrezick is ready to retire at this point in time. She could, however, pursue more modeling opportunities during her rehab. After all, she was named Playboy’s newest model for its Winter 2025-26 issue.
“Playboy’s 2025 Miss June,” Gondrezick wrote on Instagram. “Proud to be the first Black professional athlete in history to ever grace Playboy magazine and this year’s centerfold.”
There should be plenty of business opportunities off the court for Gondrezick in the coming months.

We’re certainly wishing Gondrezick a full and speedy recovery.
