With the two-week NCAA transfer portal window closing soon, Iowa football has another last-minute visitor coming in to see what the Hawkeyes have to offer. Per Hawkeye Report’s Blair Sanderson, Iowa will host former SMU wide receiver Lance Beeghley in Iowa City on Thursday.
The 6-foot-2, 194-pounder from New Braunfels, Texas, did not see any playing time in the 2025-26 season, after redshirting with the Mustangs in 2024.

As such, Beeghley will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next destination. Beeghley initially inked with SMU in the 2024 class as a three-star signee, as the nation’s No. 296 wide receiver and as the 346th-ranked player in Texas, per 247Sports.
As Iowa looks to continue reconfiguring its wide receiver room and depth, securing a commitment from Beeghley would be a big win for offensive coordinator Tim Lester and head coach Kirk Ferentz.
The Hawkeyes have added a pair of wide receivers from the transfer portal already in former Furman receiver Evan James and former UTRGV receiver Tony Diaz.
