When Angel Reese announced her arrival in the WNBA back in 2024, she set the stage on fire with her offensive rebounds. The LSU alum recorded a season-high rebounding average of 13.1 in her rookie year and, since then, her graph with the Chicago Sky has been on an upward curve. But is Reese’s prowess on the court limited to just rebounding? Sky head coach Tyler Marsh says no for now.
Having coached Reese for the 2025 WNBA season, Marsh denied the perspective of Reese’s role as just a rebounder in a recent discussion on the A Star Struck podcast. “From a playing standpoint, she’s a lot more versatile than some people give her credit for, ” Marsh said. “I think that people put her in a box of rebounder, but she can do a little bit more of that. So, the sky is the limit on who she can be as a player.”

Rebounding is the strongest element of Reese’s career. And her consecutive WNBA rebounding leader feat automatically validates this. Angel Reese has topped her team and the league in rebounding averages in both seasons. But her point-scoring finesse isn’t much talked about. For instance, in the 2025 season, she averaged 14.7 points across 30 games. And don’t forget about her shooting from the field; the Chicago Sky forward hit 45.8% of her shots from there.
Moreover, there have been several instances in which Reese has taken the offensive lead for the Chicago Sky. Her season-high 24 points against the Los Angeles Sparks in June, which contributed to a 92-85 win for the Sky, is the latest example of what she could do outside of just rebounding.
Her coach, Marsh, believes the Chicago Sky’s power forwards’ overall skill set will develop over time. He added, “She’s a star, and she’s continuing to learn who she is as a player. In this league, she is a back-to-back two-time all-star, so she has made a statement early. And obviously, what she is doing off the court is just inspirational.”
