Did Matchmakers Get It Right? Emmett Lands Another Main Event

by

A featherweight main event has been booked for UFC Vegas 114 scheduled for Mar. 14 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside Meta APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, as veteran contender Josh Emmett meets rising youngster Kevin Vallejos.

UFC’s social media team announced the booking Friday afternoon. See below:

Emmett, who will turn 41 on Mar. 4, has struggled of late. The perennial contender is just 1-4 in his last five trips to the Octagon, which includes a loss to Yair Rodriguez back in 2023 for the interim UFC featherweight. Emmett did turn in a Knockout of the Year candidate over Bryce Mitchell back at UFC 296, but he hasn’t quite looked himself since then. This will be a big opportunity for Emmett to prove he still has some gas left in the tank.

Vallejos, on the other hand, is one of the most exciting young prospects in any UFC division. The 24-year-old finisher has produced a 3-0 UFC record since earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series, which puts him at 17-1 overall heading into the new year. The only defeat on Vallejos’ record is a 2023 decision loss to Jean Silva. “El Chino” is also coming off a ridiculous spinning backfist knockout over Giga Chikadze last December, which likely landed him his first UFC main event nod.

What do you think, fight fans? Did UFC matchmakers get this one right?
