Strong Third Quarter propels Lady Bulldogs over Cowgirls 58-47

by

The Marysville Lady Bulldogs continued their recent winning streak by defeating the Abilene Cowgirls on Tuesday night 58-47. After falling behind early by double digits the Cowgirls used an impressive second quarter effort to get back into the game only to see it fade in the second half.

A strong third quarter defensive effort in which the Lady Bulldogs didn’t allow a basket from the field would help propel them to the victory.

A slow offensive start would hamper Abilene as they would trail 22-9 after the first quarter. Kit Barbieri, and Tessa Herrman would each lead the Cowgirls early with a pair of baskets.

Abilene then responded by out-scoring the Lady Bulldogs 17-10 in the second quarter. Five different players would score for the Cowgirls in the quarter including Barbieri, Herrman, Makenna Stover, Timber Taylor, and Kinzie Crump. An Abilene 10-2 run to close the quarter would cut the deficit as they would trail 26-32 at halftime.

The Marysville defense would then change the momentum in the third quarter. They would increase their lead by not allowing the Cowgirls to score a single basket from the field the entire third quarter. With just five points allowed fromthe free throw line, the Lady Bulldogs would enter the final quarter leading 45-31.

Marysville continued to increase their lead in the fourth quarter as they reached their largest lead of the game of 21 points at the 5:00 minute mark. A last attempt effort that included multiple baskets by Makenna Stover, Tessa Herrman, and Kit Barbieri would cut the game back to 44-56, however the Lady Bulldogs lead would be too much to overcome as they would hold on for the 58-47 victory.
