Texas A&M Women, Kentucky Men Win in Nashville SEC Showdown

Vanderbilt hosted SEC opponents Texas A&M and Kentucky for a women’s swimming and diving competition Friday, with the Aggie and Wildcat men also competing in neutral waters. On the women’s side, Texas A&M defeated Kentucky 139-122 while beating Vanderbilt 202-54. Kentucky also surpassed the Commodores (206-55). For the men, Kentucky defeated A&M 184-78.

The meet began with Kaitlyn OwensElla McQuinnAva Whitaker and Reagan Sherrard dominating the 200 medley relay for A&M in 1:37.97. McQuinn got the first individual win for the Aggies with a time of 1:46.72 in the 200 freestyle, and she later added a first-place result in the 100 free (49.01). Owens claimed first in the 100 backstroke (53.05) as well as the 50 free (22.91).

Whitaker dominated the 200 butterfly (1:56.05) as well as the 100-yard race (52.83) while Hannah O’Leary led the way in a tight 200 breaststroke (2:12.56). The team of McQuinn, Owens, Sherrard and Eloise Williamson crushed the field in the 400 free relay by more than two seconds, going 3:19.30.

Kentucky’s Paige Housman captured first in the 1000 free (9:53.84), and teammate Sarah Shaffer won the 100 breast (1:01.96). Ally Frame won the 200 back (1:57.45), and the 500 free went to Madilyn McGlothen (4:47.18). Hayden Penny rounded out individual racing with a win in the 200 IM (1:59.14). In diving, Avery Giese took first on platform (264.98) as well as 1-meter (282.38).

In the men’s meet, the Kentucky team of Lysander OsmanAdomas GatulisJavier Lopez-Guillen and Falemana Tuufui notched a winning result in the 200 medley relay (1:24.10). Carson Hick scored the distance freestyle double, going 8:49.51 in the 1000 free and 4:19.36 in the 500 free. Caue Gluck took the win in a tight 200 free (1:37.25), and Osman led a Wildcats 1-2-3 finish in the 100 back (46.03).

Gatulis hit the pad first in the 100 breast (52.35), followed by Lopez-Guillen pulling away for first in the 200 fly (1:44.05). Tuufui was the sprint king Friday, going 19.19 in the 50 free and 42.86 in the 100. Devin Naoroz went 1:43.17 for a one-second win in the 200 back before Gatulis scored again in the 200 breast (1:56.87). Kentucky’s Esteban Nunez Del Prado topped the 100 fly (47.03), and the team of Tuufui, Osman, Justin Peresse and AJ Terry won the 400 free relay in 2:52.26.

Texas A&M got one swimming victory for the men Friday as Munzy Kabbara was first in the 200 IM (1:46.12). Emilio Trevino won platform diving (394.43) while Nathan Stone was first on 3-meter (362.25).
